Comparison of effectiveness of direct method and Traditional method in English teaching.

The Traditional Method 

 has been with us through the 

before long time and is still with us. This method stresses reading ability, the 

study of grammar as an aid to reading comprehension, and a great deal of both written and oral translation. Its main impact is on reading, writing,translation, and grammatical rules.  This has been the most popular method with the language teacher as well as with the learners. But the main objection to this method is that it ignores the listening and speaking skills of the learners. The students who study by this type of method can read and write very well but can neither speak nor make use of their knowledge of the language if they happen to listen or speak to a native speaker of the language. This type of method is unnatural method because of word for word translation makes the whole process of learning English language.
