Respected Sir,
1. Friedrich
Nietzsche believing in progressive and forward looking thing and on
the other hand T.S.Eliot in “The WasteLand” seems to be
regressive and backward looking. He is come with philosophical
concept. “The Ubermensch” it the German words which means
superman. The ubermensch as a goal for humanity to set for it self.
T.s.Eliot talked
about three religious christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism. Here, in this
poem present the past, present, and what is modern thing. He was also
mentioned symbol like “Red Rock” : Christian church faith in God,
“Saint Marry Woolnoth” : is a curch. He also use of varous
language like: English, German, French, Italian and sanskrit. The
third part “ The Fire Sermon” pointed out about the Budhism, and
last part “Upnishad” point out three ways to salvation. Eliot
believes in to the God and myths.
2. According to me,
“ The Wasteland”- T.S.Eliot the centeral theme of the poem is
sexual perversion and spiritual degradation . It is also mentioned
that “Life in death, death in life”. Eliot concern that one must
follows tradition for “Salvation” Sigmund Freud and eliot both
are opposite from each other. Freud concern for salvation one should
be collective and individual balanced. He believe that “Life in
death and death in life”, the cycle of life.
3.The title of the
last part “What the Thunder Said” from Upnishad Prajapati spoke
in thunder said “Aakashwani”. Eliot talked about three DA:
Datta: which means
be giver
Dayadhvam: Which
means compassion
Damyata: Which means
Self-Control.
Shantih!
Shantih!Shantih! He take the “Upnishad”. “Shantih” in the
large context of the Hindu Tradition and spacific context of its use
in “WasteLand”. It goes with Indian Philosophy. Here, “Shantih!”
mantra means poet wants peace from the nation.
Here in this poem is
also useful for ecocritical study because in the poem he wants to
save river. The river is symbolizes the flow continuity of life. So,
the river is also symbol of salvation of humanity. So, we can say
that Eliot's use of Indian thoughts were for good idea in to the
human mind.
Thank You....
